Born: 1877, Geroldsgrün, Bavaria, Germany.

 

career:

For many years evangelical missionary of the ‘Neuendettelsauer Missionsgesellschaft’ in New Guinea; he collected plants and animals on his trips in the interior. In 1929 he was awarded the honorary Dr’s degree of the University of Erlangen with a view to his ethnological studies.

Author of a dictionary of the Kâte tongue, and an ethnographical paper.1

Several plants were named after him.

From the Sattelberg following the upper course ofthe Bulung River, sources of the Mongi, Saruwaged Mountains, climbing Titaknan (Luitpoldberg, 3780 m), and Bolan (4000 m) (Oct.)2.-1913. Sattelberg (Apr.).-1916. Saruwaged Mts (June-July).
