career:

Was educated at Wageningen Agricultural College; since 1936 Forest Officer in the employ of the D.E.I. Forest Service, stationed at Buitenzorg at the Forest Research Institute; in 1941 transferred to Pemalang (Centr. Java) and shortly afterplaced at the disposal of the commander in chief of the D.E.I. Army.
