NE. New Guinea, former Kaiser-Wilhelmsland. In Jan. 1888 he made some tours from Butaueng with C. Hunstein (see there); with some others sailing in the ‘Samoa’ (Febr. 16) to Kelana, for the foundation of an agricultural station which was discontinued as soon as July next year (cf. also sub Hunstein).

Araucaria hunsteinii K.Schum. together with Hunstein; probably in Herb. Berlin [B].

(1) Author of: ‘Aus Papuas Kulturmorgen’ (Berlin 1905). For a biologist this book is of no value, it mainly contains critique on the bureaucracy in New Guinea, on the colonization plans for German peasants, and on the policy of Berlin.
