Born: 1876, Heerenveen, Fr., Holland. Died: Jan. 11, 1909, Buitenzorg, Java.

 

career:

Botanist, from 1905-07 Assistant in the Experiment Station for Rice etc. at Buitenzorg; since 1907 till his death Head of the Botanical Laboratories there. He made several official tours in Java.

Some orchids were named after him by J.J. Smith.

 

Collecting localities:

S. Sumatra: Palembang (June-Sept. 1, 1905);1 E. Java: Malang (1907).2 In 1908 he made a journey through Java, collecting at Telaga Bodas, etc.

Herb. Bog. [BO]. He evidently brought home living orchids, which were partly cultivated in Hort. Bog.
