career:

Lieutenant-Colonel in the Madras Army, who joined the Penang establishment in 1818, and later (1823-40) was in civil charge of Province Wellesley; subsequently Assistant Resident at Singapore; in 1850 returned to Europe.

Author of ‘A dissertation on the soil and agriculture of Penang’.
