Born: ?, Scotland. Died: May 3, 1866, Creek Town, Africa.

 

career:

A gardener of the Edinburgh Botanic Garden, undertook the botany department of the Admiralty expedition in the ‘Herald’ (see below); in the years 1862-66 he collected in W. Africa.

Some plants were named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

Voyage in the ‘Herald’, 1852-61.1 cf. also sub J. MacGillivray. Surveying the Pacific Islands, and Torres Strait, S of New Guinea.
