Born: 1866, Ystad, Sweden. Died: 1941, Stocksund, Sweden.

career:

Bryologist from Lund, Sweden (Ph. Dr 1903), visited Burma and Java in l 896/97.¹ He was a teacher of natural history first, but was later on the staff of the Government Museum for palaeobotanical researches. In the International Addressbook of Botanists, he is mentioned as Lecturer at Stocksund.

Made his Java/Burma trip with support of the Battram stipend. Burma was visited after his return from Java; end November 1897 found him back at Lund again. From 1904-06 secretary and assistant at the Institute of the Swedish Seed Control Society at Svalöv; from 1906-17 teacher at Kalmar, Falun, and Västerik; from 1917 onwards he did bryological work at the State Museum Stockholm, living at the nearby Stocksund.

Stereophyllum mölleri Broth. was named after him.

Collecting localities:

1897. W. Java (Jan.-Sept.): Buitenzorg, Garoet-Tjipanas (May 2); Tjileboet, G. Salak, Tjisaroea, G. Gedeh-Pangrango (Tjibodas, Tjibeureum, etc.), G. Tjibodas, P. Edam (Bay of Batavia), Tjibadak, Tjitjerouk (= ? Tjitjoeroeg), Palaboean Ratoe and Tjisolok, Tjitaroem River, Zandbaai (Aug. 6, with E. Nyman), G. Papandajan, Pantjar. -Malay Peninsula (Sept., when returning to Europe):² Singapore (8 days) and Penang (Sept. 2 1). 

He evidently collected in W. Sumatra too, viz at Padang near Emmahaven (cf. Hedwigia l.c. sub Liter. 3, p. 318, 320), possibly on the outward voyage in January.

53 Nos of Java plants were sent for identification to Dr E.D. Merrill; dupl. in Herb. Arn. Arbor. [A].

His Java collection is labelled ‘Plantae Javanicae’. In 1907 the State Mus. Stockholm [S] bought 500 Java plants; also mosses (pres. 1906) and Algae (1917/18) from Java.
