Born: 1839, Cortina in Asturias, Spain. Died: 1910, Valladolid, Spain.

 

career:

An Augustinian friar who collected plants in the Philippines together with his colleague C. Fernandez-Villar (see there).1

Clerodendron navesianum Vidal was named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

 

collections:

Lost by fire in 1899, in the burning of the Guadalupe convent near Manila. Possibly duplicates of his collections were sent to Madrid before then.

 

literature:

(1) Together they edited the 3rd edition of Blanco, Flora de Filippinas, adding a name list (Novissima Appendix) of all Philippine plants known at that time.
