Born: 1854, Solok, Sumatra. Died: 1917, Leiden, Holland.

 

career:

Joined the D.E. Indian Government service in 1876 as a clerk at the Governor’s office, Sumatra West Coast; later Inspector of Native Education at Fort de Kock (S.W.C.); in 1904 he retired and was appointed Professor at Leiden University.

 

collections:

Herb. Kol. Mus. (= Ind. Inst. Amsterdam): material of Batak medicinal plants, accompanied by a list of vernacular names, 157 specimens (pres. 1896). The Batak Lands are situated in Tapanoeli Residency, NW. Sumatra.
