Born: 1887, Norrtälje, Sweden. Died: 1956, Lyckorna, Bohuslän, Sweden.

 

career:

Phytopathologist-mycologist who took his Ph. Dr’s degree at Stockholm in 1915. In 1912-13 he travelled in Madagascar; from 1916-18 attached to the Institute for Plant Diseases, Buitenzorg; employed in the Technical Division of the Department of Agriculture at Batavia, 1919-20; Director of the Deli Experiment Station (Medan, Sumatra), 1920-26. Subsequently Director of the Guatemala Plantations Ltd, 1926-30; and Professor of Plant Pathology in the Universify of Illinois, U.S.A., at Urbana; in 1934 appointed Lecturer in Phytopathology at Stockholm University.

Author of botanical and agricultural papers.1

 

Collecting localities:

1920-26. Sumatra East Coast, paying numerous visits to different parts of G. Sibajak.-In 1924 he collected in Atjeh, N. Sumatra.

He visited Tjibodas in W. Java on Apr. 10, 1917 and Apr. 7-13, 1918; he possibly collected there.

 

collections:

In Herb. Bog. [BO], for example material for the study of the genus Balanophora. The Atjeh collection (1924) was sent to Buitenzorg through the intermediary of the Director of the Deli Experiment Station (in 1936), maybe for identification only. Herb. Pasoer. [PAS now in BO]: 2 nos from N. Sumatra (coll. 1924). The Mitrastemon material is not in Herb. Bog., maybe in Sweden, as plants collected by him are in Herb. State Mus. Stockholm [S].
