A native collector in the employ of H.H. Bartlett (see there), who worked under the supervision of the Reverend Hamel (see there) of the American Methodist Mission. He was trained by Bartlett in 1927.

Bauhinia rahmatii Merr and other plants were named after him.

Collecting localities:

1928-36. N. Sumatra: Batak Lands (Tapanoeli); Sumatra East Coast.

collections:

Herb. Univ. of Michigan [MICH]: first set, > 10.000 nos. Bartlett distributed the collections from there, the best dupl. are in U.S. Nat. Herb. Wash. [US] (2645); Herb. N.Y. Bot. Gard. [NY] (with Britton Herb. etc.); Arn. Arbor. [A]: about 2500 specimens (pres. 1934-37); Gray Herb. [GH] (pres. by Arn. Arbor.): 60 specimens; orchids in O. Ames Herb [GH], Cambr. (Mass.); Herb. Berkeley (Cal.) [UC];1 some in Herb. State Mus. Stockholm [S] and Leningrad [LE]. In 1957 a set was presented to Herb. Leiden [L].

The material was partly identified together with the collections of Yates and H.H. Bartlett.2 The plants are often cited as collected by Hamel & Rahmat si Toroes, and sometimes by Rahmat si Toroes only. This is wrong, according to Bartlett the right name is Rahmat si Boeea.
