career:

Gardener of Sir W. MacArthur (see there), who sent him with the expedition of Sir W. MacLeay (see there) as an horticultural emissary.

Elaeocarpus reedyi was named after him.1

 

Collecting localities:

SE. New Guinea, Papua. ‘Chevert’ Expedition, 1875; cf. sub Sir William MacLeay. F. von Mueller mentions the following localities: Sue Island, Yule Isl., Straits Isl., Cocoanut Isl., mainland opposite Darnley and Yule Isl., Katau River and Baxter River. He is cited to have visited Merauke in Dutch S. New Guinea,2 but this seems doubtful.
