Rensch-Maier, Ilse

Born: 1902, Remscheid, Germany.

 

career:

Wife of Bernard Rensch (born: 1900, Thale am Harz, Germany), the latter zoologist and since 1925 Head of the division Molluscs of the Zoological Museum of Berlin University. She accompanied her husband and some other scientists on an expedition to the Lesser Sunda Islands (see below) and took care of the botanical collecting.

Adenostemma renschii Koster was named after her husband, Lamiacanthus renschiae Bremek. and Rhododendron renschianum Sleumer after Mrs Rensch herself.

1927. W. Java: Tjibodas; Centr. Java: Diëng Plateau (March 5-6).-Expedition to the Lesser Sunda Islands.1 Lombok (March-Apr.): Ampenan, Narmada; via Laboeanhadji to S(e)wela (March 22); Sembaloen; G. Rindjani (Apr. 1-7) with Segara Anak and Sembaloen Plateau; Sembaloenboemboeng; Selong; Tandjoengloear and by proa to the southern part of the island: crossing the island to Ekas (staying some days); W. Soembawa: Soembawa besar (Apr. 25); Batoe-lanteh Mts (May 4-14), making headquarters at Batoe Doelang; E. Soembawa: Dompoe (May 24-June l); Wawo (June 2-3); Flores: Ende(h) (June 9-. .), visiting P. Ende(h); Badjawa; Manggarai, visiting Rana Mesé (June 19-28); Sita; Mborong; Ende(h); Koanara; the Gelimoetoe (July 16-20); Soemba: Waingapoe (July 26), Cambera River (Cambaniro); Bali: Boeleleng; Gitgit (July 31); Danau Bratan, Batoeriti (Aug. 4- . .); by car to Denpasar (S. Bali) and Kloenkoeng; Kintamani and Danau Batoer; Boeleleng.-A half-day trip was made in P. Weh (Sabang), N of Sumatra, either on the voyage out or home.2

Herb. Berl. [B]: 1662 nos, incl. c. 10 nos from Diëng Plateau, and many, cryptogams.3 About 1000 duplicates in Herb. Bog. [BO]; also dupl. at Kew [K], and Leiden [L].

Somebody of the D.E. Indian Forest Service collected in June 1928 in the mountains N of Endeh (Flores), at the instigation and on behalf of Mrs Rensch (cf. sub Förster). This collection is cited by von Malm as nos ... comm. Rensch; and by Mrs Rensch as Rensch nos..., but evidently numbered separately. The collection at Berlin is probably lost, but the ferns are safe.
