Solms-Laubach, Hermann Graf zu

Born: 1842, Laubach, Upper Hesse, Germany. Died: 1915, Strassburg, Germany.



Private University teacher at Halle a/Saale, in 1872 appointed Professor of Botany at Strassburg, and in 1879 Director of the Botanic Garden at Göttingen and besides Professor of the university there; from 1888 till his superannuation in 1907, Professor at Strassburg again.

He paid a visit to Java (see below), making several provisional researches and collecting a considerable amount of material for later studies.1

Author of several taxonomic papers, especially dealing with Rafflesiaceae.

He is commemorated in the genus Absolmsia Kuntze.


Collecting localities:

Java (Oct. 1883-March 1884). Staying 3 months at Buitenzorg,2 collecting in the following localities in W. Java: G. Pantjar (Dec. 1, 1883), Tjibodas (Jan. 30, 1884).



Herb. Berl. [B]: Musci, Fungi and Hepaticae from Java (coll. 1883-84), 27 nos of siphonogams (pres. 1884-85), and material of Rafflesia (pres. 1892); numerous nos for the Show Mus. Berl. In Herb. Brit. Mus. [BM]: cryptogams (pres. 1894) (from ? Java); Herb. Lindemann (U.S.S.R. [LECB]): 10 dupl. (no provenance mentioned); Herb. Leiden [L]: Musci from Java.
