Stokey, Alma Gracey

Born: 1877, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A. Died: 1968.



Took her Ph. D. at Chicago in 1908; since 1916 Professor of Botany, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass. (U.S.A.), worked in the Foreigners’ Laboratory at Buitenzorg, W. Java, from May-July 1931, and once more in 1937.1 She studied the germination of fern spores and the development of the prothallia, especially those of representatives of more primitive families.2



She collected ferns at Tjibodas, W. Java (July 1937). The collection was dried at the Buitenzorg Herbarium, identified by O. Posthumus, and subsequently sent to her.
