Born: 1908, Kaifeng, Honan Prov., China.



Took his B.S. degree in biology in the National Honan University, China; teacher in Chinese high schools in the Malay Peninsula and the Dutch East Indies (later Indonesia).

From July 1949-1951 he studied in the Buitenzorg Herbarium.

1940. Malay Peninsula: Singapore and Johore (Jan.-March), Selangor (March-July); Sumatra East Coast: Medan and Brastagi (Aug.-Dec.).-1941. Sumatra East Coast: Medan and Brastagi (Jan.-May). -1947. W. Lombok (Sept.-Nov.).-1948. E. Lombok (Feb.-May).-1949. W. Java: Bogor and Sindanglaja (Aug.-Nov.).-1963. S. Sumatra (June-July): Baturadja, Palembang, Telok Betong-1964. Lesser Sunda Is: Lombok (Apr.-May).



Partly deposited in Herb. Nat. Honan Univ.  [HNNU], partly in Fukien Prov. Mus. [FCU] at Foochow, and partly in private herbarium. Nos 1-604 from the Malay Peninsula, 605-1109 from Sumatra, 1110-1404 from W. Lombok, 1405-1729 from E. Lombok, 1730-2210 from W. Java.

550 nos from Lombok (1964) in Herb. Bog. [BO]; dupl. Herb. Leiden [L].

His total collections number to about 10.000 (Flora of the Southsea Islands).
