career:

The last member of the wellknown horticultural firm of Veitch & Sons at Chelsea, London. To my knowledge he never travelled in the tropics.

He was the author of many papers on ornamental plants and a hybridizer of orchids.

Betula harryana Hort. was named after him.

Herb. Kew [K]: General Herb., 1884; Malaya etc. 1886-98 (incl. plants from Burke, C. Curtis, J.G. Veitch, Lobb); Herb. Brit. Mus. [BM]: 140 plants from Juan Fernandez, S. America and Java, from various collectors (pres. 1877); 40 from Costa Rica (pres. 1872); species of Nepenthes (pres. 1876 and 1878).
