Born: 1875, Funen, Denmark. Died: 1954, Copenhagen, Denmark.

 

career:

Was trained as a gardener, and studied in Germany and England; manager of a plantation, Mt Austin Estate, in Southern Johore, 1905-18; Head of the office of the Plantation Department, Head Offices of the East Asiatic Company at Copenhagen, from 1918 onwards. In the latter capacity he made several tours of inspection in the Malay Peninsula, Siam, and Java. Resigned in 1944.

 

Collecting localities:

Malay Peninsula: Mt Austin, to the north of Johore Bahru (1916 onwards)- W. Java: Garoet (1917)-Trengganu (1919); later collections in other parts of the Malay Peninsula and in Lower Siam; Trengganu, Selangor and Singapore (Nov.-Dec. 1935). During tours of inspection he possibly collected in Java too.

Herb. Sing. [SING]: plants (pres. 1917), and some dupl. of later collections; Herb. Bog. [BO]: material of Acriopsis ridleyi (pres. 1916); U.S. Nat. Herb. Wash. [US]: 6 dupl. Malacca. Further collections were sent to Copenhagen [C] (c. 1500 specim.).
