Born: 1890, Basel, Switzerland. Died: 1960, Basel, Switzerland.

 

career:

Botanist, educated at Basel, Munich and Geneva (Ph.Dr 1914, Munich); in 1914 expedition to Paraguay with Prof. Chodat;1 subsequently at Geneva with Prof. Chodat; from 1919-22 on the staff of the Rubber Experiment Station W. Java;2 Professor of Taxon-nomy at Basel University.

 

Collecting localities:

Between Aug. 1919-22. In W. Java, at Tjibodas etc.; in E. Java: G. Raun (with W.H. Arisz), Idjen Plateau, etc.; Bali (10 days, little or not collected); S. Sumatra: Lampong Distr. (2 or 3 days); Sumatra West Coast: Padang Highlands to Sg. Kwanten in Indragiri (Centr. Sum.).

Several plants presented to C.A. Backer and Bakhuizen van den Brink Sr (see there). Private herbarium and demonstration material for his lectures at Basel. Herb. Bot. Gard. Berne: material of Cladopus nymani, diapositives of Rafflesia patma and Cycas rumphii, candles of Tjibodas (pres. 1925).
