Born: 1891, Soerabaja, Java.

career:

Entered the employ of the K.P.M. (Royal Packet Co.) in 1913; since 1926 Sub-Chief of that Company, stationed at Batavia.

collections:

He evidently cultivated orchids in his private garden. One of them, Dendrobium devosianum J.J.Sm., was named after him. The plant was not collected by himself, but bought; dried material in Herb. Bog. [BO]. The same might be the case with Aerides odoratum from P. Telo (Batoe Islands).
