Westermann, Jan Hugo

Born: 1906, Loosdrecht, U., Holland.

 

career:

Geologist, educated at Utrecht University (Ph.Dr 1932), joined the B.P.M. (Batavian Oil Company) in 1934. After a short stay at Pladjoe (S. Sumatra), he worked for three years in the Barito basin, SE. Borneo. In September 1937 he was transferred to Babo, Dutch SW. New Guinea, in the employ of the New Guinea Oil Company. After European leave in 1939, he departed to Venezuela for the Caribbean Petroleum Co.; from Nov. 1943-March 1946 in the employ of the D.E.I. Government, stationed successively at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and after the Japanese capitulation at Batavia; subsequently working for the Shell Co. in Holland and Colombia; from Dec. 1946 onwards Director International Office for the Protection of Nature, stationed at Amsterdam.
