About 1841 Chaplain of Singapore, collected plants and gave them to Dr Theodore E. Cantor. The latter, M.D. of the Bengal Medical Service, visited and collected in the island of Chusan in 1840 and 1841; his plant collections were identified and described by Griffith1 and are preserved in Herb. Kew [K], and Cambridge [CGE]. His collection includes the plants collected by White in the Straits, in all 73 species, incl. some ferns and lycopods (enumerated by Griffith).
