career:

From 1904-12 collector and Forester of the Bureau of Forestry, Manila, P.I.; later employed by the Rubber Manufacturer’s Association at New York.

Author of some sylvicultural papers.1

Several plants were named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

 

Collecting localities:

Philippines, 1903-12. Luzon: Prov. of Bataan, Lamao Forest Reserve (Apr.-July 1904; Dec. 1904-May 1905; Sept. 1905), Mt Mariveles, Lamao River, etc.;2 Tayabas Prov.; Mindoro (March 1, 1906)-Negros (May 1906); and probably in several other localities.

Herb. Manila [PNH]; dupl. in Herb. Berl. [B], Herb. Leiden [L]. He partly used private numbers, but numbered in the F.B. series (see sub Forestry Bureau, Manila) too; in the latter together with Hutchinson (see there). In the years 1903/04, 537 nos from Bataan Prov. (Luzon) were presented to Manila [PNH]; in 1904/05, 892 nos were brought together in the Lamao Forest Reserve.3
