Born: 1857, Koudum, Fr., Holland. Died: 1904, Weltevreden, Java.

 

career:

Was educated in Holland, and subsequently joined the D.E. Indian Civil Service. In 1893 he was set to work in the office of the Secretary General at Buitenzorg, and in 1896 he was appointed Assistant Resident at Poerwokerto (Centr. Java). He stimulated the foundation of agricultural credit-banks and pawnshops for the economical uplift of the Indonesian population. Towards the end of 1903 he was appointed temporary Inspector in Chief of the Pawnshop Service.

Herb. Bog. [BO]: probably but few plants. Cammerloher cited 2 Cinnamomums collected by him at Poerwokerto, Centr. Java.

Hort. Bog.: orchids and Rafflesia (pres. 1880), tubers of Gloriosa, etc. (pres. 1894).
