Born: 1798* or 1800**, Paris, France. Died: 1852, between Senegal and Europe o/b a tradingship.

career:

Surgeon-botanist with a French expedition (see below) under command of Dumont d’Urville (see there). In 1851 he was stationed at Senegal, from where invalided home, passing away during the voyage. Some plants were named after him.

Pisang and G. Api); sailing for Australia, Port Essington; Aroe Islands: anchoring near Dobo (P. Wamar, Apr. 17), making trips to Wakan (= ? Wokam), Trangan, etc.; sailing (21) for SW. New Guinea (Vogelkop): Triton Bay and Fort du Bus (Apr. 23-29); E. Ceram: Waroe (May 7-8); SW. Celebes: Makassar (May 22-27); S. Borneo: near Bandjermasin (June 2); W. Java: Batavia (9-18, of which 15-17 at Buitenzorg); Singapore (June 27-July 1); W. Borneo: Sambas (July 8); Philippines: Solo (= prob. Sulu) Isls, Bewan (21-24); Mindanao, Samboangan (= Zamboanga) (July 28-Aug. 5); sailing along the coast of E. Borneo (some times going ashore, on Sept. 1 etc.); P. Laoet (SE of Borneo) (Sept. 14); Java: Semarang (24-29), Batavia (Oct. 4-5); S. Sumatra: Lampong Distr., on the road of Radja Bassa (8-9); Tasmania, Southsea, Auckland Islands, etc.; Loyalty Isls; the Louisiades; S. New Guinea: Torres Strait (May 29-June 11, 1840), visiting Warrior Isl. etc.; Timor: Koepang (June 21-25) ; via Bourbon and St Helena returning to Toulon (Nov. 6, 1840).

Hombron & Jacquinot collected in the following localities in the Malaysian region: Ternate (80 nos), Ambon (30), Banda (peak of G. Api, 10 nos), Ceram (Warrow = Waroe, 30 nos), Îles Arrou (= Aroe Isls, Wamar, 30 nos), Triton Bay (SW. New Guinea, 60 nos from the coast region), Makassar (SW. Celebes, interior, 40 nos), Borneo (near the coast, 40 nos), Singapore (5), Soulou (= Sulu Islands, 5 nos), Zamboangan (Mindanao, 60 nos), Java (Buitenzorg and Semarang, 80 nos), Sumatra (Lampong Bay, 30 nos), Timor (Coupang and S of it, 50 nos); besides some Algae in Warrior Isl. (Torres Strait) and Île de Leyden (= P. Leiden, Bay of Batavia).4

Hombron published part of the zoological results of the expedition too.
