Born: 1881, Java. Died: Dec. 19, 1957, Bogor, Indonesia.

 

career:

Indonesian, since 1896 in the employ of the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens, finally ‘mantri’. He was attached to several expeditions (see below) and was awarded the Bronze Star for Loyalty and Merit in 1910. In 1944, under Japanese administration, he was temporarily dismissed.

Dendrobium rachmatii J.J.Sm. was named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

1909-10. With the 2nd Lorentz Expedition to S. New Guinea; for detailed data cf. sub L.S.A.M. von Römer. When the trip to the Hellwig Mts was over, they returned to Alkmaar bivouac (Dec. 15, 1909); towards the end of the year Rachmat was homeward bound. He collected a few plants either on the voyage to, or from, New Guinea, at Dobo (Aroe Islands) and at Koepang (Timor)-1913-14. With 2nd van Vuuren Expedition (see there) in SW. and Central Celebes.
