career:

Was educated at Ohio State College, taking his Ph. D.’s degree in 1935. From 1919 attached to the Canton Christian College (Lingnan Univ.), since 1931 full professor. Since 1936 Senior Botanist Bureau of Plant Industry, Washington. He visited Baguio, Luzon, on a vacation. Well-known expert on bamboos.

He is commemorated in Premna maclurei Merr.

Herb. Manila [PNH]: 223 plants from Baguio, Luzon (pres. 1925), and from some other localities. He is cited as the collector of a fern no 16058 on Mt St. Thomas, Luzon (cf. Christensen in Dansk Bot. Ark. 6, 1929, p. 69), evidently numbered in the series of the Bureau of Science or Bur. of Forestry at Manila. Dupl. in Herb. N.Y. Bot. Gard. [NY].
