Tours in the ‘Basilisk’, 1871-74.1 Visiting the following localities near and in E. New Guinea: islands in the Torres Straits, Moresby Isl. etc., Redscar Bay and E of it, Port Moresby, Farfax Harbour, Edith River, E. coast of New Guinea, Yule Island, Hall Sound, Hilda and Ethel River, Milne Bay, Teste Isl., D’Entrecasteaux Isls; NE. & N. coast: Collingwood Bay, Dyke Acland Bay, Huon Gulf (Markham River), Astrolabe Bay (termination of the survey), Humboldt Bay, Threshold Bay. He returned to Europe via Ambon and Singapore.

F. von Mueller mentions a Bryophyllum calycinum (cultivated) from New Guinea, obtained during Capt. Moresby’s discovery voyage;2 the specimen was sent to him through the intermediary of Richard Merricks Esq. of the Naval Depot of Auckland. If material is extant, probably in Herb. Melbourne [MEL].
