Mueller, Sir Ferdinand Jacob Heinrich von

(Source: Flora Malesiana ser. 1, 1: Cyclopaedia of collectors)

Born: 1825. Died: 1896.

Sometimes he is cited as the collector of New Guinea plants. He himself never was in that island, but distributed many duplicates, including New Guinea plants from several collectors, from the Melbourne Herbarium [MEL]. In a similar manner 4220 plants from Australia and New Guinea were presented by von Mueller at various dates from 1863 onwards to the Herb. Brit. Mus. [BM], though part of the Australia plants might have been collected by himself. According to Warburg his labels often lack the name of the actual collector.1
