Quoi, Jean René Constant

Born: 1790, Maillé, Vendée, France. Died: 1869, Rochefort, France.



Surgeon in the French Navy; naturalist to some French expeditions (see below), during which he undertook the zoological department together with Gaimard.

Acrostichum quoyanum GAUD. (= Campium - Copel.) was named after him.


Collecting localities:

Voyage in the ‘Uranie’, 1817-20;1 cf. detailed data sub Gaudichaud. Quoi and Duperrey visited P. Kera in the Bay of Koepang together, and in company with others Bakoelnasi, S of Koepang (Timor).-Voyage in the ‘Astrolabe’, 1826-29;2 cf. sub P.A. Lesson.



Herb. Paris [P]: at least plants from the Bay of Doré (NW. New Guinea) and from the Minahassa (N. Celebes), together with Gaimard.3 MSS in Libr. Nat. Hist. Mus. Paris.4
