Booberg, Karl Gunnar

Born: 1892, Orebro, Sweden. Died: Oct. 28, 1944, Tjimahi, Java.



Peat expert and plant geographer who took his degree at Uppsala in 1930; till 1924 he was employed in Sweden, at first as Assistant in the Geological Service at Stockholm, subsequently by the ‘Svenska Mosskulturföreningen’, Jönköping; since 1925 employed at the Java Sugar Experiment Station (Pasoeroean), respectively Group-Adviser at Modjokerto 1925-26, Inspector of the Field Service 1926-28, Asst Director of the Agricultural Department 1928-34 and Director of the same Department 1934-41. After his retirement he settled at Djoenggo, Poenten (E. Java).

He is the author of many papers, principally concerning cane-breeding, but of some plant-sociological publications on the Malaysian flora too.1

Herb. Uppsala [UPS]: 500 dune plants (pres. 1928); Herb. Pasoer. [PAS now in BO]: 68 nos, and Booberg & Backer 24 nos; Herb. Bog. [BO]: e.g. 19 specim. Clason & Booberg, without numbers. The specimens preserved at Pasoeroean and Buitenzorg are for the greater part without dates. Also some sheets in Herb. Nat. Hist. Mus. Stockholm [S]. Also some dupl. in Herb. Lund [LD].
