Born: 1904, Oldenhove, Gr., Holland. Died: 1971, Groningen, Gr., Netherlands.

 

career:

Passed for the natural history examination (K IV) at Groningen, and subsequently studied botany at Groningen University (till 1928); Group-Adviser in the employ of the Java Sugar Experiment Station (Pasoeroean), stationed at Sitoebondo 1929-33, Kediri 1933-35, Cheribon 1935-36, Pasoeroean 1936-37, Kediri 1937-39; since 1939 Inspector of the Field Service. After World War II he was evacuated to Holland, and returned to Java in Aug. 1947.

He partly collected together with his wife Eppiena Henderika Harmanna Clason-Laarman (1903, Winschoten, Gr., Holland; x) who studied biology at Groningen University too.

Herb. Groningen [now in L]: c. 1000 nos; Herb. Pasoer. [PAS, now in BO]: 104 nos (princ. coll. 1928-30), and collection ricefield plants E. Java (1937-39); Herb. Bog. [BO]: ± 1000 nos of dupl. (coll. 1931-41); Herb. Kol. (= Ind.) Inst. Amsterdam: material of wild and cultivated Ocimum basilicum specimens.5 Many of his numbers are preceded by letters, e.g.: B, C, D, E, F, G, K, X; the collection of G. Kloet numbered K 1-K 209 (all material at Buitenzorg?[BO]) and some s.n.

Also numbers with Mrs Clason-Laarman (1930-33, from Besoeki, E. Java), Dr D.F. van Slooten and Dr G. Booberg. At the outbreak of war the lists of his collections were in the Java Sugar Exp. Station at Pasoeroean.

After World War If he refound his collection of rice-field plants at Pasuruan; subsequently it was incorporated in Herb. Groningen [now mainly in L].
